Wigan vs. Liverpool

DW Stadium

08-03-10

8:00pm

Wigan - Liverpool

The chance to move back into the top four is there for us tonight. Wigan, on a difficult pitch that makes it harder, isn't going to be easy but the incentive of moving above Man City and Tottenham, as well as opening some daylight between us and Aston Villa, should be incentive enough even if it will leave them all with games in hand.

Wigan Team News:

Gohouri is out through injury and N'Zogbia and Scharner require fitness test however they are expected to be fit enough to start. Moses, a player rumour had it the Reds were interested in, is expected to make his first start for Wigan since his move from Crystal Palace.

Player to watch: Moses

Victor Moses is believed to have impressed as a substitute for Wigan since his arrival and with a first start looming will be looking to make the most of it.

Liverpool Team News:

Fabio Aurelio and Martin Skrtel are both missing with injuries however (despite being doubtful) Daniel Agger could be passed fit to start. Glen Johnson returned to training last week and is expected to be in the squad but on a difficult pitch, like the one at the DW Stadium, in my honest opinion I'd be very surprised to see him in the starting XI.

Player to watch: Torres

Fernando Torres might not be in the starting XI (because Rafa is looking to protect him as he returns) however the Spaniard will play some part and this could be a crucial part?

Match Facts & Stats

The Reds last six meetings with Wigan:
Liverpool 2-1 Wigan
Wigan 1-1 Liverpool
Liverpool 3-2 Wigan
Liverpool 1-1 Wigan
Wigan 0-1 Liverpool
Liverpool 2-0 Wigan

Ref Watch:

Andre Mariner will officiate.

Match Prediction:

Wigan can be, and have proven to be this season, an inconsistent side. If anyone thinks we can turn up and just win they'd be wrong as this will be tough but in my honest opinion we can do this so my prediction would be Wigan 1 Liverpool 3.

Ouch. 29 games and 48 points? Doesn't look so good against 26 games and 45 points now does it? The table will really show April 1st.

Just done that BBC Predictor again, damn its gonna be close. Still realistically have it between City and Liverpool. For Spurs to have a chance we have to beat either Arsenal or Chelsea at home AND avoid defeat at Eastlands.
