Size Does Matter To Sissoko

Size Does Matter To Sissoko

Mohamed Sissoko has revealed that he turned down the chance to join Juventus in the summer, because he feels Liverpool are a 'much bigger' club.

The Turin club were reportedly prepared to pay £10 million for the Malian international, but Momo wanted to remain at Anfield and battle for a place in the side.

'I believed that Liverpool are a much bigger club than Juventus and decided not to speak to them any longer,' he told the Daily Star Sunday.

'I'm a Liverpool player and I want to show to the people here, to everyone, that I'm already at a big club.

'I'm happy to be in Liverpool. I did want to stay despite the interest. That's why I signed a new contract.

'There are five midfielders for two positions. I'm happy in Liverpool and I want to play for the club as long as I can.'

He's right, why would he want to take a step down in class by signing for those corrupt clowns.

It's a good job he's found his form again though. Not wishing to be harsh, but last season, the two Barca matches aside, he wasn't particularly impressive, maybe suffering from lack of confidence after Mascherano arrived and his injury issues. But a new contract, a first goal, and a couple of impressive displays have restored my faith in him, otherwise I would have been wondering whether it would've been worth taking £10m for him in the pre-season, given Leiva's arrival.

He was great in the early part of last season and I particularly remember his brilliant display against the chavs when we beat them in the Community Shield, but I think it was the shoulder injury he suffered that set him back. He was out for a long time with it and he wasn't the same when he came back, but lately he looks as if his best form has returned.

i agree i never looked the same after the injury and it didn't help with mascherano coming in, i think had to have a word with to let him know that he was still part of his plans

Even with his form returning, he's still fourth choice in central midfield, behind Gerrard, Alonso, and Macherano. And with Lucas arriving at the club, I would've sold Momo to Juve at 10 mil, because I can't see him displacing any of the midfielders ahead of him.

It may be that with a fully fit squad, Momo would be fourth choice but he's a damn good fourth choice and there's a long hard season ahead.
