Liverpool: Stats Preview 17/18 - Manchester United (Away)

A selection of the key facts, figures and statistics ahead of the crunch fixture at Manchester United...

Another Premier League outing for Liverpool FC is fast approaching and, as per usual, we've been trawling the record books to bring you all the facts, figures and statistics you need to know.

Control of second place is on the line this Saturday lunchtime when the Reds travel to arch rivals Manchester United looking to prove they are the best of the rest behind runaway league leaders Manchester City.

Here's what caught our eye:

• Liverpool and Manchester United have contested 227 competitive matches during their respective histories with Liverpool trailing overall courtesy of 75 wins to 87 defeats and 65 draws (source:

• Liverpool are unbeaten in the past five meetings in all competitions, although the last four have all been drawn including the three most recent league meetings.

• The Merseysiders haven't beaten United in the league since March 2014 (0-3 at Old Trafford). The subsequent seven fixtures have produced three draws and four defeats, with United doing the double in both 2014/15 and 2015/16.

• The last four of these matches have produced just three goals with two of them ending 0-0.

• United have won 12 of their last 15 home contests, scoring at least two goals in the most recent three.

• The Red Devils have also won 10 of their last 13 home league games against Liverpool, although during the Premier League era only Manchester City and Chelsea (both six) have won more times at Old Trafford than Liverpool (five).

• Liverpool have won eight of their last 10 Premier League matches (D1, L1) and scored at least two goals in 11 of their last 12.

• No side has scored more away league goals in the big five European leagues this season than Liverpool (34, level with Lyon).

• Kop boss Jürgen Klopp has lost just one of his eight competitive meetings with Jose Mourinho as a manager (W3, D4).

• Former Everton frontman Romelu Lukaku scored four goals in his first four Premier League matches against Liverpool, but has since netted just once in his last eight. He is one away from reaching 100 league goals in England's top-flight.

Mohamed Salah has scored in each of his last five Premier League appearances; only Daniel Sturridge (eight in February 2014) and Michael Owen (six in April 2003) have scored in more consecutive games in the competition for Liverpool.
