Which players are likely to be unavailable when Liverpool take on Manchester City?...

Following a spell in Dubai, Liverpool returned to training in Merseyside in midweek boosted by the presence of Mohamed Salah, Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno.

Hamstring problems had been sidelining Salah and Sturridge, while an ankle injury has forced Moreno to watch on in recent weeks as Andrew Robertson put in a string of strong performances at left-back.

Of the three, Salah, who has missed the past two matches, is most likely to feature against Manchester City on Sunday with Sturridge, who has been linked with a January departure, and Moreno short of match fitness having not played since the end of November and the beginning of December respectively.

Captain Jordan Henderson, who is another hamstring victim, is not quite ready for a return just yet, while right-back Nathaniel Clyne remains a longer-term absentee with a back issue that required surgery.

Selection wise it will be interesting to see who fills the attacking central midfield role in the coming weeks following the sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona. Adam Lallana looks the most likely but summer signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been increasingly prominent in recent weeks.

Klopp must also decide on a regular partner for new £75million centre-back Virgil van Dijk, with Joël Matip probably set to fill the position in the short-term having started alongside the Dutchman in the 2-1 FA Cup win over Everton last Friday.

League leaders Manchester City arrive at Anfield with captain Vincent Kompany doubtful due to a calf strain.

Definitely unavailable to Citizens manger Pep Guardiola are striker Gabriel Jesus, full-back Benjamin Mendy (both knee) and youngster Phil Foden (ankle).

Neither side has anyone ruled out through suspension.
