Liverpool: Stats Preview 17/18 - Manchester City (Home)

A selection of the key facts, figures and statistics ahead of the home game with Manchester City...

Another Premier League outing for Liverpool FC is fast approaching and, as per usual, we've been trawling the record books to bring you all the facts, figures and statistics you need to know about it.

Saturday will see Jürgen Klopp's side looking to end Manchester City's long unbeaten domestic run of 32 games in all competitions (W26, D6) and enhance their own top-four position in the process.

Here's what caught our eye:

• Liverpool and Manchester City have contested 207 competitive matches during their respective histories with Liverpool leading overall courtesy of 101 wins to 54 defeats and 52 draws (source:

• Liverpool are on a 17-game unbeaten run in all competitions - their longest such sequence in more than 20 years - stretching back to October when they were defeated 4-1 by Tottenham Hotspur (W12, D5).

• The defeat against Spurs at Wembley is one of only two experienced by the Merseysiders in the league this term - only unbeaten City have lost fewer times.

• Liverpool remain undefeated at home this season with their last reversal at Anfield coming 15 league and cup matches ago against Crystal Palace in April 2017 (1-2).

• City have a poor record at Anfield having lost 14 of their 20 visits during the Premier League era, conceding 40 goals and scoring just 17. They last won in L4 almost 15 years ago when Nicolas Anelka scored an injury-time winner in May 2003.

• Liverpool's current total of 44 points after 22 games is more than at the same point of the swashbuckling 2013/14 title challenge (43 points) when they finished runners-up to City. Like Brendan Rodgers' side, the present-day Reds are currently sitting in fourth place with a +25-goal difference.

• Pep Guardiola's table-topping City remain undefeated domestically in 2017/18 with their 22-game league record reading 20 wins and 2 draws. The 62-point total is 15 more than second-placed neighbours Manchester United possess.

• The Citizens have kept a clean sheet in their last three away Premier League matches and have let in a league-low 13 goals overall.

• This fixture sees the top-flight's two top scorers meet - City have found the net 64 times in their 22 fixtures, while Liverpool have notched on 50 occasions. United are the league's third highest scorers on 45.

• The hosts have had a nine-day break between fixtures, while the visitors were in action on Tuesday night in a hard-fought Carabao Cup semi-final first leg tie with Bristol City (which they came from behind to win 2-1).

• Former City midfielder James Milner has scored 11 of his 13 penalties for Liverpool - although he had failed to score with his previous two efforts before converting during Friday's FA Cup success against Everton.

• By scoring the winner against Burnley last time out in the league, Estonian Ragnar Klavan has taken the number of different nationalities to have scored a Premier League goal to 97 (excluding own goals).

• Under Guardiola, only Sergio Aguero (49) has scored more City goals in all competitions than ex-Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling (28).
