Liverpool: Stats Preview 17/18 - Swansea City (Home)

A selection of the key facts, figures and statistics ahead of the home game with Swansea City...

Another Premier League outing for Liverpool FC is fast approaching and, as per usual, we've been trawling the record books to bring you all the facts, figures and statistics you need to know about it.

Boxing Day will see the Reds hosting bottom side Swansea City, who left Anfield with an unlikely three points when in a similarly precarious situation last season.

Here's what caught our eye:

• Liverpool and Swansea City have contested 41 competitive matches during their respective histories with Liverpool leading overall courtesy of 22 wins to 11 defeats and 8 draws (source: 11v11.com).

• Swansea have won two of the last three meetings (L1) after losing five in a row in all competitions between February 2014 and November 2015.

• The Welsh side's 3-2 victory at Anfield last season was their only win in 16 total league visits there (D3, L12).

• Only three clubs have ever survived relegation from the Premier League when bottom on Christmas Day (West Bromwich Albion 2004/05, Sunderland 2013/14 and Leicester City 2014/15).

• The Reds haven't lost a home league game on Boxing Day since 1986 (0-1 vs. Manchester United), winning seven and drawing three of their 10 at Anfield since then.

• Since Jürgen Klopp's first Premier League match in charge of Liverpool in October 2015, games involving the Reds have seen 279 goals scored (174 for, 105 against); more than any other club.

• The last 9 Premier League encounters between these two sides have produced 35 goals, at a rate of 3.9 per game (22 for Liverpool, 13 for Swansea).

• The Merseysiders have drawn five of their last seven games at Anfield in the Premier League (W2), including each of the last three.

• Swansea have lost 19 Premier League away games since the start of last season; more than any other club.

• The Swans have had two or fewer shots on target in 10 of their 19 Premier League games this season.

• Jordan Ayew scored his first goal in 16 Premier League games, dating back to August, last time out.

Philippe Coutinho scored his 53rd goal in all competitions for Liverpool during the 3-3 draw with Arsenal on Friday night - however, it was the first with his head.
