Liverpool: Stats Preview 17/18 - Brighton (Away)

A selection of the key facts, figures and statistics ahead of Liverpool's 2017/18 Premier League away fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion...

Another Premier League outing for Liverpool FC is fast approaching and, as per usual, we've been trawling the record books to bring you all the facts, figures and statistics you need to know about it.

Saturday sees the Reds begin a busy, and likely pivotal, December with a lengthy trip to East Sussex to face a Brighton & Hove Albion side who have made a promising start to their first ever Premier League campaign.

Here's what caught our eye:

• Liverpool and Brighton have contested 25 competitive matches during their respective histories with Liverpool leading overall courtesy of 13 wins to 4 defeats and 8 draws (source: 11v11.com).

• Liverpool's only previous visit to Brighton's current AMEX Stadium home was for a League Cup third round tie in September 2011, which they won 2-1 courtesy of goals from Craig Bellamy and Dirk Kuyt.

• The two sides have met once more since then with the Merseysiders thrashing the Seagulls 6-1 in an FA Cup fifth round tie at Anfield later in the same season. The hosts benefited on that occasion from two own goals, one of which was scored by Lewis Dunk who is now the Brighton's vice captain and was recently tipped for international recognition.

• The last league meeting between the two was back in March 1983 and finished in a 2-2 draw at Brighton's old Goldstone Ground.

• The Amex will be the 57th ground that Liverpool have played at in the Premier League; they've won at 52 of the previous 56, more than any other team.

• Liverpool have won just one of their last four Premier League away trips to newly-promoted sides (D1, L2), winning against Middlesbrough 3-0 in December 2016.

• This will be the fourth time Brighton boss Chris Hughton has faced Liverpool in the Premier League; the previous three were all lost whilst in charge of Norwich City by an aggregate scoreline of 15-3.

• Since losing their opening game against league leaders Manchester City, Brighton are unbeaten in six Premier League matches at home, although the last four have all ended in draws (W2, D4).

• Liverpool's 3-0 win at Stoke City in midweek was their first clean sheet in seven attempts away from Anfield in the league this season.

• The six alterations made for that game by Jürgen Klopp mean Liverpool have now made 48 changes to their starting XI this season in the Premier League, 11 more than neighbours Everton who are the next most-changed side.

Mohamed Salah, who is the top-flight's leading scorer and has 17 to his name in all competitions, has had a hand in 14 goals in his 14 Premier League appearances for Liverpool (12 goals, 2 assists).
