Liverpool: Ref Watch 17/18 - Manchester United (Home)
The lowdown on the man in the middle for Liverpool's hosting of Manchester United on Saturday...
The Premier League has announced the officiating teams who will be taking charge of top-flight fixtures during Matchweek 8 of 2017/18 season.
The players of Liverpool and Manchester United, who meet at Anfield for a 12.30pm BST kick-off on Saturday, October 14, will be joined on the pitch by referee Martin Atkinson.
Lee Betts and Stephen Child are his designated assistants, while Jonathan Moss will be patrolling the technical areas in the role of fourth official.
Atkinson's five previous games this season have yielded a total of 14 yellow cards and one red.
During 2016/17 the Reds encountered the 46-year-old on three occasions; winning league matches away at Chelsea (two yellow cards shown, one to Liverpool) and home to Middlesbrough (one yellow card shown, none to Liverpool) but losing a League Cup semi-final second leg to Southampton (no cards shown).
United's four-match league and cup record under Atkinson last term featured two wins, one draw and one defeat.
Overall, in his 43 matches refereed, the Bradford native handed out a total of 146 yellow cards and three red.
His yellow card average finished at a miserly 3.39-per-game, with a red card shown every 14.3 matches.
Atkinson is associated with the West Riding County Football Association and has been part of the Select Group of Premier League referees since 2005.
He was promoted to FIFA's list for European and International matches in 2006.
