Liverpool: Mane Suffers Serious Hamstring Injury
Winger is expected to be out for around six weeks with an issue picked up on international duty...
Liverpool were handed a huge blow on Tuesday afternoon with the news that key man Sadio Mané has been ruled out of action for a significant period.
The speedy forward was injured whilst playing for his native Senegal at the weekend and a statement published via the official LFC website has subsequently confirmed: "Sadio Mané is facing a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring injury on international duty...
"The winger was substituted 89 minutes into Senegal's 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over the Cape Verde Islands on Saturday.
"And it has now been confirmed that he picked up an injury during that fixture that could keep him out of action for up to six weeks."
Such a layoff would see Mané miss nine games, including the Champions League double header with Maribor and crunch Premier League matches with Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea.
The 25-year-old, who is the club's reigning Player of the Year, has scored three goals in four league outings this season.
Mané's absence comes at a difficult time for a Liverpool side who have won only one of their previous seven games in all competitions.
Compounding the matter is the continued absence of attacking midfielder Adam Lallana, who has not featured all season due to a thigh injury sustained in pre-season.
The former Southampton skipper was originally expected back this month but a revelation from Sky Sports that he has been sent to a specialist clinic in Qatar would appear to raise doubts over such a prognosis.
With bitter rivals United visiting Anfield on Saturday, Kop boss Jürgen Klopp will be preying for a clean bill of health amongst the rest of his returning internationals.
