Liverpool: Team News 17/18 - Newcastle United (Away)

Which players are likely to be unavailable when Liverpool take on Newcastle United this weekend?...

Injured Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana took to social media on Thursday to provide a positive update on his recovery from a thigh strain sustained in pre-season.

The former Southampton captain posted, via Instagram, a picture of himself at the club's Melwood training ground lacing up a pair of football boots accompanied by the caption 'Back soon'.

As Lallana's comment suggests, he's not quite ready to return to competitive action just yet and his England international team mate Nathaniel Clyne (hamstring) will also again be absent at St James' Park on Sunday.

Otherwise Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has a full squad to choose from with Sadio Mané available again after completing his three-match domestic ban for a red card picked up in the 5-0 defeat at Manchester City on September 9.

Defender Joe Gomez also comes back into the reckoning after sitting out the midweek Champions League draw with Spartak Moscow through suspension and he could replace Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back.

Simon Mignolet will definitely return at the expense of Loris Karius in goal but, with an international break looming and a five-day gap from Tuesday night's European game in Russia, Klopp, despite the travelling involved, could conceivably field the same outfield line-up again.

Amongst those pushing for inclusion though are Andrew Robertson, James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum and Daniel Sturridge.

Like the visitors, Newcastle will welcome a player, Aleksandar Mitrovic in their case, back from a three-match ban but unlike Mané the Serbian forward will probably have to make do with a place on the bench.

Elsewhere, defenders Paul Dummett (hamstring) and Massadio Haidara (knee) remain unavailable to Magpies boss Rafa Benitez, while Frenchman Florian Lejeune is also a doubt due to an ankle injury.
