Liverpool: Team News 17/18 - Watford (Away)

Which players are likely to be unavailable when Liverpool take on Watford this weekend?...

Liverpool head into the opening weekend of the new Premier League season with big concerns over star man Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian, who was the subject of a potentially head-turning £90million bid from Barcelona on Wednesday, has failed to train this past week due to a back problem.

His absence would be keenly felt, especially in the creativity department where Adam Lallana is already ruled out for several months due to a thigh injury.

Daniel Sturridge (thigh) and Nathaniel Clyne (hamstring) are also doubts for the big kick-off but captain Jordan Henderson is available after recovering from a bout of illness.

Selection wise, Mohamed Salah is in line for his debut, while both Emre Can and Sadio Mané are expected to start despite shortened pre-season programs caused by international commitments and a knee injury respectively.

In the likely absence of Clyne, Trent Alexander-Arnold should get the nod over Joe Gomez and Jon Flanagan at right-back and, on the other side of the defence, midfielder James Milner will probably continue despite the recent renaissance of Alberto Moreno and Andrew Robertson's summer arrival from Hull City.

Hosts Watford have spent £30million on two new forwards this past week and both Andre Gray and Richarlison could feature from the off, especially with regular No.9 Troy Deeney sidelined following groin surgery.

Also absent for the Hornets will be Craig Cathcart, Mauro Zarate (both knee), Christian Kabasele (hamstring) and Brice Dja Djedje (unspecified).

Neither side has any players missing through suspension.
