Liverpool: Reds Lose Lallana To Thigh Injury

Midfielder to miss at least the first two months of the new campaign...

Liverpool have suffered a big blow just a week before the start of the 2017/18 Premier League season with the news that Adam Lallana has sustained a bad thigh injury.

The issue is believed to have occurred during the first half of Liverpool's Audi Cup final defeat to Atletico Madrid in Munich on Wednesday night.

Lallana, who was one of the Merseysiders' best and most consistent performers last term, is expected to be sidelined until sometime in October.

Reflecting on the development via Liverpoolfc.com, Kop boss Jürgen Klopp said: "This is certainly not news we would have wanted.

"Unfortunately, the damage is such that it will likely mean Adam is out for a couple of months not weeks, so I think we can pretty much rule him out of August and September. Beyond that we will monitor and wait and see.

"He is a boy with a world-class attitude to everything professionally and he has always come back in good time from injury setbacks since I have been here, so we will see."

In addition to league games against the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United, the 29-year-old will miss both legs of Liverpool's Champions League play-off against Hoffenheim.

Vital Comment
If keeping Philippe Coutinho out of the clutches of Barcelona wasn't already imperative to the success of Liverpool's upcoming season this setback for Lallana makes it even more so. Coutinho and Sadio Mané may have got most of the plaudits last season but Lallana was just as important on many occasions. The versatile England man is blessed with brilliant technique and his return of eight goals and seven assists in 31 2016/17 Premier League appearances proved categorically that he can provide a consistent end product after an inconsistent first two seasons at Anfield. Lallana will be sorely missed and his absence could conceivably force Klopp to revisit the tribulations of the transfer market.

Adam Lalanna will be missed,a vital player in the middle of the pitch, bad news so early on in the season,a season where this team could challenge.Injuries like this can't be accounted for,you can't predict them and they can have a dreadful impact on a season.Let's just hope he recovers quickly, sad news.
