Liverpool: Nine Noteable Absentees From Asia Trophy

A number of big names are amongst the players left behind by the Reds...

Liverpool have touched down in Hong Kong ahead of their involvement in the Premier League Asia Trophy, which begins against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

Competition rules mean the four participating teams must name a 25-man squad ahead of the tournament and Kop boss Jürgen Klopp's selection has made for interesting reading.

While the absence of Sadio Mané, Danny Ings, Harry Wilson and Mamadou Sakho was expected due to injuries, question marks have been raised by the omissions of a number of other players.

The lack of youngsters Sheyi Ojo, who has been heavily linked with Middlesbrough, Pedro Chirivella and Connor Randall on the flight from Manchester appears to suggest the trio will be leaving the club on loan in the near future.

Liverpool's Asia Trophy Squad
Karius, Clyne, Wijnaldum, Lovren, Milner, Firmino, Coutinho, Salah, Gomez, Henderson, Sturridge, Grujic, Klavan, Moreno, Lallana, Mignolet, Origi, Solanke, Matip, Stewart, Flanagan, Kent, Ward, Woodburn, Alexander-Arnold

Elsewhere, unlike Alberto Moreno who does make the trip despite a likely permanent exit this summer, Lazar Markovic misses out as a rumoured reunion with Marco Silva at Watford continues to garner column inches in the national media.

Another senior star absent is Emre Can, who is yet to return to training after helping Germany to success at the Confederations Cup in Russia.

All games in the Asia Trophy will be staged at the 40,000-capacity Hong Kong International Stadium.

Prior to Liverpool's match-up with Palace, which kicks-off at 1.30pm BST, Leicester City take on West Bromwich Albion to determine who will face who in Saturday's final and third place play-off.
