Liverpool: Mohamed Salah Talks Ongoing

Reds remain keen on the Roma star despite seeing a £28million bid rejected...

Liverpool are looking to secure their second attacking addition of the summer after revisiting their long-term interest in Mohamed Salah.

The Reds first tried to purchase the Egyptian international back in January 2014 when he was at FC Basel but lost out to Premier League rivals Chelsea.

There Salah struggled for game time and a year later he was loaned out to Italian side Fiorentina before making a season-long switch to Roma.

The 24-year-old scored 15 times for I Giallorossi during the 2015/16 campaign campaign and the move was subsequently made permanent with Chelsea pocketing a small profit on their £11million outlay.

Salah improved his goals return to 19 in all competitions last season and the pace and width he provides have again caught the eye of the Reds, who struggled in those departments last term when Sadio Mané was missing due to injury and the Africa Cup of Nations.

The former El Mokawloon youngster was a key component as Roma finished second in Serie A, contributing 15 goals and 18 assists during 31 league appearances.

Sky Sports are amongst the many mainstream media outlets reporting that talks are ongoing between the two clubs after Liverpool's initial bid of £28million was rejected.

The Times (subscription required) suggest Roma want closer to £35million, whilst also claiming the player is keen on completing the transfer to Merseyside.

Liverpool made their first signing of the close-season earlier this week by agreeing terms with free agent Dominic Solanke.

Vital Comment
After seeing Salah excel against the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in Europe, I was gutted when we missed out on him first time around. Salah, despite the frustration of his time at Stamford Bridge, has improved since then and is now a much more consistent and rounded footballer. I for one hope a deal can be struck because last season highlighted how crucial pace and movement in the attacking third are to Jürgen Klopp's preferred tactics and style of play, and Salah provides those in abundance. Given his age, record and previous exposure to English football, I wouldn't even be adverse to paying the £35million Roma are supposedly demanding.
