Liverpool: Ref Watch 16/17 - Crystal Palace (Home)

The lowdown on the man in the middle for Liverpool's hosting of Crystal Palace on Sunday...

The Premier League has announced the officiating teams who will be taking charge of top-flight fixtures during Matchweek 34 of the 2016/17 season.

The players of Liverpool and Crystal Palace, who meet at Anfield in a 4.30pm BST kick-off on Sunday, April 23, will be joined on the pitch by referee Andre Marriner.

Simon Beck and Scott Ledger are his designated assistants, while Mike Jones will be patrolling the technical areas in the role of fourth official.

Liverpool have won all three of their previous games overseen by Marriner this season, including a 4-2 victory at Selhurst Park in the reverse fixture on October 29 (three yellow cards shown, two to Liverpool).

The 46-year-old was also the man in charge of these two at Selhurst last season when a controversial stoppage-time penalty, converted by then Reds forward Christian Benteke (now of Crystal Palace), handed the ten-men of Liverpool a dramatic 2-1 victory (James Milner had earlier been dismissed for two bookable offences).

Like Liverpool, Palace have crossed paths with Marriner on three occasions this term. But unlike the Merseysiders and their 100% record, they have lost all three.

The most recent coming courtesy of a 4-0 home defeat to manager Sam Allardyce's former side Sunderland on February 4 (six yellow cards shown, three to Palace).

Overall, in his 33 matches refereed in all competitions this term, the Birmingham-native has handed out a total of 130 yellow cards and seven red.

His current yellow card average stands at 3.93-per-game, with a red card shown every 4.71 matches.

Marriner is associated with the Birmingham County Football Association and has been part of the Select Group of Premier League referees since 2005.

He was promoted to FIFA's list for European and International matches in 2009.
