New Bumper European Deal For BT

New Bumper European Deal For BT

BT Sport has today extended its television rights for both the Champions League and the Europa League.

BT Sport, owed by BT, is a paid subscription service and in 2015/16 to boost interest they made both the Champions League Final and the Europa League Final free to air on their Youtube channels in an effort to boost subscriptions under the existing £897 million deal agreed back in 2013 which has seen them broadcast European clashes since 2015.

The new deal runs until 2021 and is worth a cool £1.2billion and BT have promised as part of the new deal, clips, weekly highlights and both Finals once again will be available to watch for free on social media channels.

The new deal means that BT Sport have exclusivity across all live games and highlights, so those fans who followed on ITV's coverage will be disappointed as there will now no longer be a weekly free to air broadcast of highlights on the telebox.

Of course, that's where BT's promise on social media comes into play.

Europe's top four domestic leagues are guaranteed four places a piece for the group stages of the Champions League from the 2018/19 season and other changes will see 'double headers' in the group stage, with matches set for both 6pm and 8pm BST.

The top four domestic leagues currently in UEFA's ranking are Spain, Germany, England and Italy.
