Liverpool: VL's May 2016 Player Of The Month

Who has won the Vital Liverpool Player of the Month award for Premier League performances during May 2016?...

Liverpool endured a difficult end to the 2015/16 season, culminating in the bitter disappointment of losing the Europa League final to Sevilla.

With that competition understandably prioritised in recent weeks, after the Reds slipped out of contention for a top-four Premier League finish, manager Jürgen Klopp continued his policy of playing squad and youth team players in the remaining league fixtures.

In the four domestic matches played in May, only against Chelsea did the German select anything vaguely resembling his strongest line-up as the Reds won once, lost once and drew twice.

The games produced both five goals for and against with Christian Benteke accounting for two of the goals scored. All three of the club's senior goalkeepers - Simon Mignolet, Danny Ward and Adam Bogdan - saw game time, with the latter keeping the only clean sheet of the month in a win over Watford.

The mediocre return of five points from 12 meant the Reds finished down in eighth place in the final standings and are therefore without European football next season.

The Vital Liverpool Player of the Month is determined by the individual MOTM awards cast for each Premier League fixture. In the event of no clear winner, the editor has the deciding vote.
