Liverpool: Coutinho In-Line For New Deal
Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to tie down creative maestro Philippe Coutinho to a new long-term deal...
Results wise it has been an inconsistent pre-season for Liverpool so far but one player who has shone throughout is Philippe Coutinho.
The 22-year-old, clearly benefitting from a surprise omission from Brazil's World Cup squad, has featured in all seven fixtures played this summer and caught the eye on a number of occasions.
Speaking after the overnight defeat to Manchester United in Miami, Kop boss Brendan Rodgers admitted he is looking to reward Coutinho with an improved contract.
"I am not sure when it will be done," remarked the Northern Irishman. "I haven't spoken to any of the directors in the last few days so I am not sure where we are on that, but obviously he is someone we want to tie up for a period of time.
"I am sure I will hear more about it when I get back on Tuesday."
The attacking midfielder has established himself as an integral part of Rodgers' first team since joining from Inter Milan for a bargain £8.5m in January 2013.
50 appearances have yielded eight goals and numerous assists.
An absolute no-brainer. Coutinho has been brilliant since arriving and there is nobody else in the current Liverpool squad who possesses his combination of slick footwork and instinctive passing. The impish star also possesses the ability and youthfulness to improve further.
