Liverpool: Suarez Bids Reds Farewell

Liverpool: Suarez Bids Reds Farewell

After confirmation he will leave this summer, Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has issued a statement declaring his love for the club...

The earlier announcement that Liverpool FC have reached an agreement to sell Luis Suarez to Barcelona has been swiftly followed by a press release from the player.

In the statement, published initially on Liverpoolfc.com, the Uruguayan striker reveals his reasons for leaving and claims the Reds will always retain a special place in his affections.

"It is with a heavy heart that I leave Liverpool for a new life and new challenges in Spain," commented the 27-year-old. "Both me and my family have fallen in love with this club and with the city.

"But most of all I have fallen in love with the incredible fans. You have always supported me and we, as a family, will never forget it, we will always be Liverpool supporters.

"I hope you can all understand why I have made this decision. This club did all they could to get me to stay, but playing and living in Spain, where my wife's family live, is a lifelong dream and ambition. I believe now the timing is right.

"I wish Brendan Rodgers and the team well for the future. The club is in great hands and I'm sure will be successful again next season.

"I am very proud I have played my part in helping to return Liverpool to the elite of the Premier League and in particular back into the Champions League.

"Thank you again for some great moments and memories. You'll Never Walk Alone."

Suarez leaves after three-and-a-half years at Anfield and will cost Barcelona around £75m.

The price makes him the third most expensive player of all time, behind Real Madrid duo Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Vital Verdict
Forgetting the various controversies for a second, Suarez is the most talented player I've ever had the privilege of watching first hand in a Liverpool shirt. So much has already been said and written about him that I'm just going to leave it at that... Everyone at Vital Liverpool would like to wish Luis all the best for the rest of his career.

To be honest, whilst the letter is well written, every player writes one these days. He's up there with Dalglish with the skill he has, when compared to the era he played in. He was a pleasure to watch, but I think the timing is just about right for him to leave to fulfill his career and Liverpool to cash in on a player who didn't really want to be at the club.
