Liverpool: Lallana Anfield Bound?

Liverpool: Lallana Anfield Bound?

It has been widely reported today that Liverpool will make a summer move for Southampton star Adam Lallana...

With the current season holding just two more games for the majority of Premier League clubs, plenty of attention has already turned towards the topic of summer recruitment.

Transfer rumours are prevalent all year round but as seasons draw to a close they often carry more weight with the deficiencies or aspirations of clubs clearly formed by the preceding nine months of action.

Southampton have enjoyed a fantastic season with their quartet of England internationals - Rickie Lambert, Jay Rodriguez, Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw - rising to prominence.

The futures of Lallana and Shaw, in particular, are now up for debate with a number of big clubs said to be circling the talented duo.

The Saints are also believed to be struggling financially with owner Katharina Liebherr appearing to have little interest in investing in the side she inherited from her late father in 2010.

While Shaw is primarily being linked with Manchester United, Lallana has been connected to a move to Liverpool previously and it is a rumour that appears to have resurfaced again but this time with some added credence.

Respected Telegraph football correspondent Henry Winter is the latest to put his name to a story on the matter, while other publications, such as the Daily Mail, Mirror, Metro and talkSPORT, go as far as speculating on a fee and contract terms.

Lallana has produced a number of eye-catching performances for the south-coast outfit this campaign, subsequently earning himself a place in the PFA Team of the Year.

The 25-year-old's impressive return from midfield of 10 goals in 40 appearances also appears to have booked him a well-deserved place on the plane to this summer's World Cup in Brazil.

The St Mary's captain joined Southampton as a schoolboy back in 2000 and is idolised by fans after staying loyal to the club throughout a turbulent spell that saw them drop down to League One.

With both club and player now firmly established back in the Premier League there appears to be a growing feeling that the time is perhaps right for Lallana to attempt to further his career at pastures new.

The general consensus of the various reports appear to conclude a fee of around £20million should be amiable to all parties, while the player can expect to double his wages to £70k-a-week.

Vital Verdict
Lallana is an impressively rounded player who I rate very highly. Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is very keen to have players who ally technique with hard work and Lallana would fit the mould perfectly. Ideally I wouldn't want to spend £20million on him, if at all possible, but given he is a known quantity and we have the additional money from Champions League qualification it isn't an outrageous figure either. It seems pretty certain that at least one of Southampton's leading players will be on the move this summer and in an ideal world I'd actually love to see both Lallana and left-back Shaw join. £40million for the pair?

Likelihood (out of 5):
Four

I've said all week to my Saints mates at work that he would fit in superbly and we need a left sided attacking midfielder. Hope the reports are true, he would be a great signing.

Would you mind if we have a look at him first? We're more succesful than you and we don't play our home games in a shed.

Wouldn't mind if we were able to capture a number of Southampton's players for next season. As well as Lallana, I'd have Chambers, Clyne, Shaw, Rodriguez and Lambert. They've been brilliant. Lallana would be a perfect fit for us and I reckon Lambert gives us another dimension.
