Liverpool: Sturridge In Fitness Race

Reds striker Daniel Sturridge faces a race against time to be available for this weekend's match with Norwich City...

Liverpool are hopeful that forward Daniel Sturridge will recover sufficiently from a 'small' hamstring strain to feature against Norwich City on Sunday.

The Merseysiders travel to Norfolk off the back of last weekend's dramatic 3-2 win over fellow title chasers Manchester City, which has put them firmly in the championship driving seat.

Sturridge was substituted after 66 minutes of the encounter, with the scores level at 2-2, and subsequent tests have revealed a minor hamstring injury.

A report on the club's official website yesterday evening confirmed the diagnosis, saying: "A small strain was detected following a scan.

"The 24-year-old will now undergo a treatment programme in order to try and be available for the trip to Carrow Road."

Liverpool go into the fixture knowing wins in each of their final four games will earn them a first ever Premier League trophy.

The prospect of such an outcome occurring was further enhanced last night when City dropped more points, this time at home to relegation-threatened Sunderland.

Sturridge has been one of the key components in a surprise title challenge from a Liverpool side who finished down in 7th last season.

The 12million signing from Chelsea has scored 20 league goals this season in just 26 appearances and now has 34 in total for the club.

He will also go to this summer's World Cup, injury permitting, as an important part of England's challenge under former Reds boss Roy Hodgson.

With Henderson suspended, Lucas and Allen will probably start if Sturridge is ruled out. Sterling or Coutinho to be pushed further forward: Mignolet, Johnson, Skrtel, Sakho, Flanagan, Lucas, Gerrard, Allen, Coutinho, Sterling, Suarez
