Liverpool: The 25th Anniversary Of Hillsborough

Today is the 25th anniversary of Hillsborough and the occasion will be marked by the annual memorial service at Anfield this afternoon...

Tributes to the 96 supporters who died at Hillsborough on April 15th 1989 will be paid at a memorial service later today.

The service, marking exactly a quarter of a century since the tragedy, will be held at Anfield from 2.40pm BST.

Although the event is free, it is an all-ticket occasion and sadly none are available on the day.

Our neighbours Everton FC will also be screening events at Goodison Park with tickets there available on a first come, first served basis.

If you are not going to either ground then the club's official TV station, LFC TV, and website, Liverpoolfc.com, will be providing comprehensive coverage throughout the day.

Unfortunately, as a result of the ongoing inquests into the tragedy and the reporting restrictions imposed by the Attorney General's office, the club will only be broadcasting the initial 30 minutes of the service live.

This will include a period of silence at 3.06pm - the moment the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest was abandoned.

Delayed coverage of the service in its entirety will subsequently be shown at 6pm and repeated later at 9.30pm.

The channel, also viewable online via the official website, will begin it's Hillsborough coverage at 10am with the first of two new programmes about the disaster.

'With Hope In Our Hearts' focuses on the relatives of the 96, featuring their personal memories of their loved ones and reflections on the impact Hillsborough has had on their families.

Later, at 12.30pm, 'Hands Across the Park' revisits how Liverpool as a city came together during the aftermath of Hillsborough - in particular the way in which Reds and Blues stood shoulder to shoulder in the face of tragedy, culminating in the all-Merseyside 1989 FA Cup final.

Both programmes are repeated throughout the day or available anytime via the club's on-demand platform LFCTV GO.

In addition to the televised coverage, minute-by-minute descriptions and accompanying images will be published in real-time throughout the memorial service on Liverpoolfc.com.
