Liverpool: European Nights Returning At Weekends

Vital Liverpool member RafaTheGaffer hails the return of the legendary Anfield atmosphere...

The atmosphere around Anfield during our league games lately is on a par with the heady heights of our European nights in the mid-noughties.

European nights at Anfield have always been special, and the atmosphere is second to none. But during League matches at the weekend there has always seemed to be something missing.

Thankfully that 'something' has returned. It's called belief!

In Europe, Liverpool fans always believed they could overcome any hurdle, and let's face it, on many occasions we did. But during league games, where we were rarely in with a shout of the title, the support was good but never at the same level of those European nights (bar games against the BS and the Mancs).

This season the belief has grown game on game and with it, the atmosphere is getting better and better.

Some pundits are saying it could be a negative and impart too much pressure on the players. They obviously don't know Anfield!

Explain to me how the 'special atmosphere' affected our players when we played Olympiakos? When we dumped Juve out in the quarter finals? When we beat Chelsea in the semi's twice?

Bring on the atmosphere and let the good times roll!

Totally agree with you @RafaTheGaffer - The atmosphere generally acts as an inspiration. If anything it's the opponents who are intimidated! Sunday should be extra special given the importance and the proximity to the Hillsborough anniversary.
