Liverpool: Lawro Predicts Spurs Result

Liverpool: Lawro Predicts Spurs Result

Former Reds defender Mark Lawrenson looks ahead to Liverpool vs. Tottenham Hotspur and attempts to predict the result...

Ex-Anfield centre-back turned media pundit Mark Lawrenson has expressed his thoughts ahead of title-chasing Liverpool's Barclays Premier League fixture with sixth placed Tottenham Hotspur.

The Merseysiders will go into Sunday's match as favourites having lost just twice to their opponents in 21 Premier League meetings at Anfield.

Brendan Rodgers' men also thumped the Londoners 5-0 when they met at White Hart Lane earlier in the season.

Lawrenson, writing in his regular 'Lawro Predicts' column for the BBC, believes the Reds will again be victorious on this occasion.

Here's what he had to say in full...

"Liverpool's games get tougher now. I think they're starting to believe they can win the league - and that belief grows game by game.

"Sunderland made it difficult against them on Wednesday. It felt like Liverpool started to tighten up after scoring twice. Sunderland made changes and started to have a go and it looked closer than it should have been.

"Manager Brendan Rodgers rightly points out that if Manchester City or Chelsea win all their games, they can't win it. They'd love to, but they're reliant on other results and I don't think Liverpool will go unbeaten for the rest of the season.

"I don't think Tottenham will go to Anfield and try to defend. In fact, I don't think they can defend.

"And I don't see them starting next season with Tim Sherwood in charge. He's done a good job but when he got the 18-month contract, everyone thought he'd probably be manager until the end of the year and they'd bring someone else in.

"I think he'll get a job somewhere else. I like the fact he's tried to organise Tottenham and change the way they play.

"Their problems started last July or August when they signed too many players. The dynamic of the dressing room is very difficult. I still believe they don't know what their best team is."

Lawro's prediction: 2-0

About this former LFC player
Mark Lawrenson joined Liverpool from Brighton & Hove Albion for a then club record £900k in the summer of 1981. The Republic of Ireland international centre-back soon struck up a formidable partnership with Alan Hansen after injury to club stalwart Phil Thompson. After 332 appearances, Lawrenson left the club in 1989 and after a season playing in the American Soccer League went on to manage Oxford United and Peterborough United. During his time at Anfield 'Lawro' won 5 league titles, 3 League Cups, a European Cup and an FA Cup.
