Liverpool: Lawro Predicts Cardiff Result

What scoreline has former Reds defender Mark Lawrenson plumped for in the latest edition of his prediction feature?...

Ex-Anfield centre-back turned media pundit Mark Lawrenson has expressed his thoughts ahead of Liverpool's hosting of Cardiff City on Saturday lunchtime.

Writing in his regular 'Lawro Predicts' column for the BBC, the 56-year-old believes Liverpool will be too strong for the Welshmen.

Here's what he had to say in full...

"As abject as Tottenham were, Liverpool's win at White Hart Lane last weekend was by far and away their best display of the season.

"Spurs had 10 men for the last half-hour but Liverpool could have been 5-0 up at half-time.

"Jordan Henderson's performance was a revelation. Luis Suarez was brilliant but he plays like that every week - Henderson showed us that there is more to Liverpool's midfield than Steven Gerrard.

"Cardiff also got an important win over West Brom that, like Liverpool's victory at Spurs, saw the opposition manager get sacked soon afterwards...

Lawro's opponent
Each week Lawro invites a guest to give their Premier League predictions before seeing who guesses the most scores correctly. This week he's up against British prime minister David Cameron.

David's prediction: 2-0

"There is more uncertainty about Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay's future too, after he was criticised by the club's owner Vincent Tan.

"Mackay's problems seem to be more off the pitch because his side keep getting results when they need them.

"It is asking a lot for Cardiff to get anything at Anfield, though.

"At home, against teams in the bottom half, Liverpool have been winning games very comfortably and I think it will be a similar story on Saturday."

Lawro's prediction: 2-0

About this former LFC player
Mark Lawrenson joined Liverpool from Brighton & Hove Albion for a then club record 900k in the summer of 1981. The Republic of Ireland international centre-back soon struck up a formidable partnership with Alan Hansen after injury to club stalwart Phil Thompson. After 332 appearances, Lawrenson left the club in 1989 and after a season playing in the American Soccer League went on to manage Oxford United and Peterborough United. During his time at Anfield 'Lawro' won 5 league titles, 3 League Cups, a European Cup and an FA Cup.
