Liverpool: Gerrard Ruled Out

Midfield star Steven Gerrard has been ruled out of England's friendly fixture on Friday while Daniel Sturridge is a doubt...

Liverpool and England skipper Steven Gerrard will miss the international with Chile at Wembley on Friday night.

The 33-year-old missed training today as a result of an ongoing hip complaint and is restricted to gym work for the time being.

The injury had previously made Gerrard a doubt for Liverpool's fixture against Fulham last Saturday but he played, and performed brilliantly in the 4-0 victory, before being replaced by Joe Allen in the 67th minute.

Following the match, Gerrard had played down the seriousness of the problem commenting: "I've got a bit of a niggle. It's nothing major and I'll get it seen to over the next couple of days and hopefully I can pull through for the England games."

Despite the setback, Gerrard, who will have a pain-killing injection, still remains in contention to add to his 107 caps against Germany on Tuesday night and his absence could benefit Anfield colleague Jordan Henderson.

The 23-year-old is back in the senior Three Lions setup for the first time since Euro 2012 and is hopeful of impressing ahead of next summer's World Cup in Brazil.

"I am sure a World Cup will inspire anyone but football is enough to inspire me: just to go out and play every week," Henderson told

"Hopefully I can do the best I can and get picked again.

"I definitely think I have improved over a few years so hopefully I can keep improving as time goes on."

The midfielder, a former England U21 captain with five senior caps, has played every minute of the Reds' Premier League campaign this season.

Glen Johnson and Daniel Sturridge are also in Roy Hodgson's latest squad although Sturridge is doubtful with a foot injury.
