Then again, in reference to the title, how much is too little?
Having a little nosey around the social media world I noticed one Facebook comment (in particular) was especially critical of Liverpool and what has, or in their opinion, hasn't happened this summer and what this made clear was meant by the club as far as ambition went.
Well, lack of it for them...
Liverpool have conducted business this summer, they could still do more before the transfer window slams shut? You'd almost expect they will in fact. They have signed players, sold them too at a significant loss at times!
However that £20m-£30m, or more, on any one individual signing hasn't come and that lack of "heavy investment" saw that Facebook post say that this meant Liverpool weren't showing a serious intention on making the champions league an end of season result.
True? Perhaps so but let's face it Liverpool have a battle for a champions league finish this season anyway, that "marquee signing" or not. At least half a dozen clubs will genuinely think that they will have a crack at a top four finish, you'd hope Liverpool were among them in that thinking though but football is slowing coming round to the "bigger picture" way of thinking I feel and while instant results are still required to a degree a more savvy approach is being taken by many owners.
Can Liverpool can do this (make the champions league)? Of course they can but the chances are they'll need to strengthen that little bit more before the window closes to enhance these chances but excessive spending hasn't brought this success previously so there would be no guarantees this summer would alter that, recent season can testify to this big spending yielding no end product! Most of that spending has actually resulted in excessive losses without the initially outlay even, in some small part, repaid!
Spending wildly, for most clubs, is a thing of the past and what is considered "big money" these days isn't necessarily the case any longer but spending wisely is what Liverpool have to do and isn't this what they've done this summer so far...
