Liverpool: April's Player Of The Month

Liverpool: April's Player Of The Month

Who has won the Vital Liverpool Player Of The Month award for Premier League performances during April?...

Liverpool FC played four Premier League fixtures during the month of April and, despite remaining undefeated throughout, any lingering hopes of gate crashing the Champions League places were sadly ended once and for all.

Frustrating goalless draws at the beginning of the month against West Ham United and Reading were followed by a 2-2 draw with Chelsea; a match which overshadowed anything that had gone before this campaign but for all the wrong reasons.

The Reds showed laudable fight in battling from behind to snatch a dramatic late equaliser against the reigning Kings of Europe but the contest will forever be remembered for striker Luis Suarez's latest moment of madness.

The Uruguayan bit Blues defender Branislav Ivanovic midway through the second half and is now serving a hefty ten-match ban for violent conduct. It was an eventful afternoon for Suarez who also scored the 97th minute leveller, notched a sublime assist and gave away a penalty.

Credit must go to Brendan Rodgers and his players for the way they brushed aside the week of intense media scrutiny that followed, and the absence of their star player, to thump Newcastle United 6-0.

Daniel Sturridge scored twice, to add to his strike moments after coming on as a sub against Chelsea, as did Jordan Henderson. The other goals came courtesy of Daniel Agger, after three minutes, and fit-again Italian forward Fabio Borini.

Not for the first time, much of Liverpool's impressive play at St James' Park came through the technically gifted feet of Philippe Coutinho and the January signing is already proving a fantastic addition to the club.

Elsewhere, three clean sheets in four games have helped Pepe Reina move up to third in the most Premier League shutouts list. The Spanish goalkeeper now has 12 for the season and only Chelsea's Peter Cech (13) and Manchester City's Joe Hart (15) have more.

There can be only one winner though and...

April's Vital Liverpool Player Of The Month, as voted for by site users, is Philippe Coutinho
