Liverpool: February's Player Of The Month

Liverpool: February's Player Of The Month

Who has won the Vital Liverpool Player Of The Month award for Premier League performances during February?...

Liverpool FC played just the three Premier League fixtures during the month of February and once again results were mixed; W1 D1 L1.

An encouraging 2-2 draw at Manchester City was followed by a surprise 2-0 home defeat to West Bromwich Albion, the Baggies completing a league double over Brendan Rodgers' side.

Both performances arguably deserved more than the final result and thankfully Liverpool did enjoy an emphatic 5-0 thrashing of soon-to-be League Cup winners Swansea City in their final game of the month.

Sadly, either side of the Swansea victory, the Reds were agonisingly eliminated from the Europa League on the away goals rule after their two-legged tie with Zenit Saint Petersburg ended 3-3.

Inspired by a pair of magical Luis Suarez free-kicks, Liverpool fought back from 3-0 down but an electric night at Anfield was to end in brave failure and the side are subsequently left without any more cup football for the remainder of the season.

Back to the matter of the Premier League, the seven goals scored during February were shared around with Daniel Sturridge (2), Steven Gerrard (2), Philippe Coutinho, Jose Enrique and Suarez all finding the back of the net.

Defensively Liverpool continue to concede with disappointing regularity; it seems we either keep a clean sheet or concede several times per game. At the beginnning of the month Rodgers reacted by dropping centre-back Martin Skrtel and bringing in the retiring Jamie Carragher which will hopefully help at least in the short-term.

With regards to individual performances in February, new signing Sturridge, fit again Lucas Leiva and the often maligned Stewart Downing impressed while star duo Gerrard and Suarez continued to produce consistent quality. There can only be one overall winner however...

February's Vital Liverpool Player Of The Month as voted for by site users is Steven Gerrard

Hard to judge over just three games - Sturridge has been excellent for me but missed the WBA game through injury. Gerrard got the vote based on the individual awards combined - he was in the top three for each MOTM vote and also scored twice in the three games. Honorable mentions for Downing & Lucas
