Liverpool: January's Player Of The Month

Who has won the Vital Liverpool Player Of The Month award for Premier League performances during January?...

Unfortunately for Liverpool fans one result in particular stands out from those recorded during January; FA Cup elimination to League One side Oldham Athletic.

Thankfully the shock humbling at Boundary Park was largely out of keeping with a decent run of results in the Premier League.

From four games played the Reds won two, drew one and lost one, with the defeat a narrow 2-1 reverse against runaway league leaders Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Again Liverpool found goals easy to come by with 12 scored in the four matches, including five in the home win over Norwich City on January 19th.

New striker Daniel Sturridge got himself off the mark on debut and finished the month with two goals in three league appearances (three in all comps) whilst top-scorer Luis Suarez continued his fine form with another four league goals (six in all comps).

Defensively Brendan Rodgers' side faired better than in previous months with two cleansheets. Although Arsenal, like United, breached their rearguard twice.

In addition to strike duo, Suarez and Sturridge, an honourable individual mention should go to Steven Gerrard for continuing his return to form with a series of committed displays - the Liverpool captain finish in the top three of every individual match vote.

As always there can only be one overall winner however and this month it is perhaps the surprise figure of Jordan Henderson picking up the accolade.

The 22-year-old produced a number of fine all-round performances which kept £15m summer signing Joe Allen out of the side. Often maligned, Henderson proved a number of doubters wrong with his all-action performances and, as well as featuring on the scoresheet twice, the England international took two individual MOTM awards.

January's Vital Liverpool Player Of The Month as voted for by site users is Jordan Henderson

Sturridge's impact has been brilliant. He joined after the win over Sunderland and with two individual awards I think Henderson is the right choice - never thought I'd be saying that to be honest! Lots of credit to both him and Downing for the way they have battled into starting contention. Shows Rodgers must have decent man-management skills.
