Liverpool: The Vital LFC News Roundup

Your easy to digest news update on all things LFC. Snippets this week include a fixture change, praise for the strikers and local boxer David Price...

Liverpool have confirmed the upcoming Barclays Premier League fixture at home to Swansea City has been rescheduled and will now take place on Sunday 17th February with a 3pm kick-off.

Liverpool U18s narrowly lost 1-0 to Inter Milan in the quarter-finals of the Al-Kass Cup in Qatar on Friday (1st February). The young Reds had beaten Aspire Qatar 2-0 and then drawn 0-0 with Esperance to reach the last eight stage, and they played well during the 90 minutes. Ultimately however a spectacular diving header in the 64th minute was enough for Inter to sneak the win.

Liverpool U19s have been drawn to face Sporting Lisbon in the last 16 of the NextGen Series. The Reds will travel to Portugal for the tie, with the date of the fixture still to be confirmed.

It's been announced the senior side will again sport a new logo on their jerseys, as they did in the final game of last season, for the Anfield clash with West Bromwich Albion next month. The club is giving further backing to Standard Chartered's 'Seeing is Believing' initiative which raises funds to tackle avoidable blindness in developing countries.

Liverpool's assistant manager Colin Pascoe has hailed the partnership forming between strikers Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge. "They work on certain things in training but they have naturally gelled great together," revealed Pascoe to the club's official site. "Once you put them both together, the football takes over. You see the footballing intelligence and the footballing finesse that they both have."

Suarez also received some praise this week from Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini ahead of Liverpool's trip to The Etihad on Sunday. Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the Italian told reporters: "Suarez for me is a top player. I like him because he is strong and he works hard. For me, he is one of the best in England." Reds midfielder Lucas Leiva has spoken glowingly about the ability of his fellow Brazilian and new Liverpool signing Philippe Coutinho. The 26-year-old told the Liverpool Echo: "Coutinho is a very talented player. He is very young but he has a lot of experience already... He is a proper Brazilian with a lot of skill and he likes to play with the ball and score goals."

Liverpool Ladies enjoyed a 3-0 pre-season win over Manchester City last weekend as they continue preparations for the start of the 2013 Women's Super League season in March. New signings Fara Williams and Nicole Rosler were both on the mark. Ahead of the game Matt Beard's side also completed the signing of United States U23 international Amanda Da Costa.

The Ladies are next in action on Tuesday (5th February) when they take on Leeds United at the Halton Stadium (7.30pm kick-off). Admission for this and all other home matches during pre-season is just £2 for adults and £1 for children.

Away from football, it has been announced that British and Commonwealth heavyweight boxing champion David Price and American world-title challenger Tony Thompson will stage a public weigh-in at Anfield on Friday 22nd February (1pm start). Their highly-anticipated fight takes place the following night at the Liverpool Echo Arena.
