Liverpool: The Vital LFC News Roundup

Your easy to digest news update on all things LFC. Snippets this week include fixture cancellations, a defender's departure and new live TV games...

Liverpool's first choice goalkeeper Pepe Reina is a doubt for the upcoming FA Cup match against Oldham Athletic with two separate injuries that forced him to miss the 5-0 victory over Norwich City on Saturday (19th January). Both a thigh problem and a broken nose will be assessed as the week goes on.

Fears that the cup game at Oldham on Sunday (27th January) will be postponed due to the current spell of bad weather have eased after the League One club received an inflatable pitch cover from the Football Association. The device, described as a 'bubble', is filled with hot air to ensure the playing surface is protected from the extremes of the weather outside and consequently the match scheduled to kick-off at 4pm is now almost certain to go ahead.

Other recent games involving the Reds have been less lucky. The FA Youth Cup fourth round tie at Histon scheduled for Wednesday (23rd January) has been postponed due to a frozen pitch. The game will now be played on Wednesday 13th February at 7pm GMT, at the Glass World Stadium, Bridge Road. The U18s also saw their clash at home to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon (19th January) postponed due to bad weather. This fixture will now take place on Wednesday night, due to the lack of cup action, at St George's Park (kick-off 7pm).

Liverpool U21s scheduled clash away to West Ham United on Friday night (18th January) was also postponed due to the bad weather. The game failed a Thursday afternoon pitch inspection and a new date will be announced soon. Alex Inglethorpe's side are next due in action on Monday 28th January when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Kirkby Academy.

The first team have had three league fixtures moved for live TV broadcasts in March. The trip to Wigan Athletic will now take place at 5.30pm on Saturday 2nd March (ESPN), Tottenham Hotspur's visit to Anfield is now scheduled for Sunday 10th March at 4pm (Sky Sports) and the away match against Aston Villa has been altered to 1.30pm on Sunday 31st March (Sky Sports).

Liverpool's Scottish international defender Danny Wilson has joined Hearts on loan until the end of the season. A recent temporary switch to Bristol City was plagued by injury and the 21-year-old will be hopeful of getting substantial game time in Edinburgh after finding minutes hard to come by at Anfield since signing for 2m in July 2010.

Diminutive Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has revealed how he came to terms with the physicality of playing football against older and bigger opponents. Speaking to the Daily Mail, the 18-year-old commented: "I've always played above my age group, with bigger guys, but I love the challenge. With the physicality, I had to learn new tricks, learn to outsmart my opponent. It was good for me trying to outplay the older, bigger guys. It was scary at first but after a while I got used to it and getting kicked was just natural."

Fellow Reds wideman Oussama Assaidi contributed a lively display for Morocco as they were held to a 0-0 draw against Angola on Saturday (19th January) night. The fixture at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, was Morocco's first game of the 2013 African Cup of Nations and next up for them are the Cape Verde Islands on Wednesday 23rd January.

Despite worries to the contrary, struggling music retailer HMV has confirmed that all its proceeds from the sale of Hillsborough single 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother' will go to charity. The song was the 2012 Christmas number one and the companies joint administrator Nick Edwards commented: "I can confirm that all money raised by HMV for various charities will be paid in full."

Speaking of Hillsborough, a charity run from the ground to Anfield is to be staged in April to raise funds for children's hospitals in Liverpool and Sheffield and in memory of the 96 who lost their lifes at the 1989 disaster. Click here to find out more and make a donation.

still rate wilson but doesn't look like he will ever make it at lfc given lack of matches and the fact club still looking at new cbs like forren

Agree. He was considered quite a coup when we got him but never really had a run of games. Certainly not been anywhere near the first team under Rodgers so might be time to move him on permanently sadly. Behind Agger, Skrtel, Carragher, Coates and even Wisdom I would imagine for centre-back places.
