Liverpool: The Vital LFC News Roundup

Your easy to digest news update on all things LFC. Snippets this week include NextGen progress, Wisdom's new contract and Europa League ticket details...

A fantastic showing by Liverpool U19s on Tuesday night (8th January) secured their progress to the next stage of the NextGen Series. The youngsters defeated reigning champions Inter Milan 4-1 at St Helens' Langtree Park courtesy of two penalties by Conor Coady and an assured double by German striker Samed Yesil. Right-back Ryan McLaughlin also excelled on a brilliant night for Alex Inglethorpe's side. LFC side: Fulton, McLaughlin, Smith, Jones, Sokolik, Coady (c), Sinclair (Trickett-Smith), Pelosi, Yesil, Adorjan (Rossiter), Ibe.

New signing Daniel Sturridge's goal after 7 minutes of the weekend cup win over Mansfield Town made him the club's second quickest debut scorer ever. Only Chilean Mark Gonzalez, who took just three minutes in a Champions League qualifier back in 2006, has found the net sooner on debut.

Speaking of Sturridge, the 23-year-old striker has described Liverpool as the 'biggest club' in the Premier League. Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, the former Chelsea and Manchester City man said: 'It is the biggest club I have ever played for. In the Premier League, there is no bigger club than Liverpool. I thank the boss for giving me an opportunity to play for a club like this and I thank God for making it possible."

Progress in the FA Cup has seen the Reds drawn against League One side Oldham Athletic in Round 4. The match at Boundary Park will kick-off at 4pm on Sunday 27th January and has been chosen for live TV coverage by ITV.

19-year-old defender Andre Wisdom, who played against Mansfield and has 14 first-team appearances this season, has penned a new long-term contract at Anfield. After signing the deal, Wisdom commented to Liverpoolfc.com: "It was an easy decision to make - as soon as they offered it to me, I grabbed the opportunity with both hands because it's a great club and I just want to continue to play for Liverpool."

One man not involved on Sunday was club captain Steven Gerrard but the England international has been speaking to the official Liverpool FC Magazine about his form so far this season. The 32-year-old analysed: 'I think my performances are getting closer to where I want them to be so if I can add goals to those performances then maybe people will start saying the old Steven Gerrard is back."

Following Brendan Rodgers' recent admission that he will be holding talks with veteran defender Jamie Carragher over his future, former Reds striker John Aldridge has called on the 34-year-old to stay on for at least one more year. Speaking in his Liverpool ECHO column, Aldridge said: 'Carra is out of contract in the summer and is considering his options. Brendan Rodgers wants him to sign another deal and I'd love to see him keep playing for another year. He never lets us down and definitely still has the ability to perform at the top level. Just having him around the place is a massive plus."

The Europa League resumes next month and Liverpool FC have released ticket details for the home leg of the clash with Zenit St.Petersburg on Thursday 21st February. Tickets for the 8.05pm kick-off range from £28-40 for adults and just £5 for juniors within the family sections. Over 65 and disabled concessionary prices will also apply. Liverpool Ladies have completed the signing of Icelandic international Katrin Ómarsdóttir. The 25-year-old midfielder, who has previously played in Sweden and the US, has 48 caps and eight international goals to her name. Manager Matt Beard commented to the official club website: 'I'm delighted Katrin has decided to join us. She is a hardworking, creative central midfield player; she scores goals and is a great passer of the ball."

The Ladies begin their build-up to the new Women's Super League season with an away friendly against Celtic on Saturday 26th January. Click here for full details of their pre-season schedule.
