Liverpool: Latics Up Next In FA Cup

After prevailing against Mansfield Town Liverpool will face Oldham Athletic in Round 4 of this season's FA Cup...

Brendan Rodgers and his Liverpool side will travel to Oldham Athletic in Round 4 of the FA Cup after they overcame a spirited non-league Mansfield Town today.

The Reds rode their luck at times and eventually required a controversial Luis Suarez strike to add to a debut goal by Daniel Sturridge to overcome Mansfield 2-1.

League One outfit Oldham reached the next stage by defeating Nottingham Forest 2-3 on Saturday afternoon courtesy of goals from Robbie Simpson (2) and Jose Baxter.

The Latics have never reached an FA Cup final despite three semi-final appearances whereas the Reds have lifted the famous old trophy on seven occasions.

The last of Liverpool's triumphs was under Rafael Benitez in 2006 although they were also runners-up in the competition last season under Kenny Dalglish, losing 2-1 to Chelsea in May's final.

The two sides actually met last term during the Merseysiders' march to Wembley with the hosts prevailing 5-1 in the third round.
