Liverpool: Flattered Duo Linked To Reds

Liverpool: Flattered Duo Linked To Reds

With club football taking a two week international break the rumour-mongers have been out in force once more...

Despite the January transfer window being the best part of three months away Liverpool are still regularly linked with a number of new players.

Two of the most recent names connected to the club, Christian Eriksen and Angelo Ogbonna, have now commented on the rumours and both made positive noises about the idea of plying their future trade at Anfield.

The biggest name of the two is arguably Danish international midfielder Christian Eriksen, who currently plays for Dutch side Ajax.

The highly rated 20-year-old, linked with a host of Europe's top clubs over the past couple of seasons, has refused to commit himself to the Amsterdam based club past the current campaign.

Speaking in relation to the rumours, Eriksen told Danish football magazine Tipsbladet.dk: "It is great that such big clubs are interested.

"It is very special for me but I am not contemplating various transfer scenarios in any way at the moment."

Ajax's stance on the situation is unclear but the general consensus appears to be a move is more likely next summer with the player adding: "We don't really know right now. It all depends on how the season unfolds."

Eriksen has spent his whole professional career at Ajax and already holds 26 caps for Denmark. During 2011 the former Odense youth team star was voted both the Danish Football Player of the Year and the Dutch Football Talent of the Year.

Elsewhere Italian international centre-back Angelo Ogbonna has described the Reds as 'one of the biggest clubs in the world'.

The 24-year-old, who is currently with Serie A club Torino, has four international caps for the Azzurri and was part of their Euro 2012 campaign which ended with defeat to Spain in the final.

"It is flattering to be linked with Liverpool football club, one of the biggest clubs in the world. It's very famous," said Ogbonna to Sky Sports.

"However, my contract with Torino expires in 2016 and I like Torino as a club. But you never know."

Ogbonna, who is of Nigerian descent, is known to have received a number of offers during the close season but decided to remain at Torino for now.

The player revealed in previous comments published by Italian newspaper Tuttosport: "I had many offers (in the summer) but I chose to stay here and I'm happy to have made it.

"[Coach Giampiero] Ventura has influenced me more than anyone else.

"I've always been happy here. I have a long contract with Torino, I will give my best this season, then we'll see.

"I would go abroad willingly. I would like to experience other cultures. English football fascinates me, but the style is similar to Torino's one. And I speak English."

Vital Verdict
In truth we do not know a great deal about Ogbonna but to be an Italian international defender whilst playing for a club of Torino`s modest size suggests he must have some ability. Eriksen on the other hand is an up-and-coming star of the European game with many suitors. The Dane would be a great signing with one eye on the inevitable day when Stevie G hangs up his boots.
