Liverpool: A Point Suits Keane

A Point Suits Keane

Robbie Keane was happy with the Champions League point Liverpool got at Atletico Madrid after the 1-1 draw on Wednesday. Keane, who scored the goal that put us ahead also missed a great chance to add another, felt that a draw was a fair result after the pressure the Spanish side put us under before finally getting the late equaliser, as he explained to Sky Sports:

'In the first half we had quite a few chances so we knew they would come out fighting and make it difficult for us.

'They put us under the cosh in the second half and then they had a few chances towards the end so all in all you have to be happy with a point.'

As for the Irishman's own first half miss, shortly after his goal, when he tried to be clever with a fancy flick when a side foot would've done the trick he admitted he should've scored, he added:

'I should have had two. It was a great ball from Stevie.

'It's no excuse but the ball was swerving all over the place. I should have got something on it but it wasn't to be.'

Rafa Benitez also said that Keane should've scored and chances like that must be taken when presented, however he was just about content with the point, but more happy with the position it leaves us in, as he explained (also to Sky Sports):

'In this situation, it doesn't matter how you score, you have to score. That's it.

'You have to finish when you have the chances. We were trying to find the perfect pass. We were in their final third and all we were doing was passing it.

'We have one more point now and it's not a bad position to be in, but if you concede after 83 minutes, then you have to be disappointed.'

I don't think that we can have many complaints about the draw, as to me that was a fair result for the pressure that Atletico put us under, the fact that our goal was offside and a goal they had disallowed wasn't. We can't complain about a late equaliser either, as that is something (but usually a winner) we have specialised in recently. A point is a good point and it leaves us very much in control of our own destiny and I'm happy with that.

In other Reds news, and very much related to the Atletico match, Rafa now has to sweat over the fitness of Stevie Gerrard, Xabi Alonso and Robbie Keane ahead of the match with Chelsea. All three had to come off in the CL match, and the seriousness of knocks to Keane and Alonso will be known today with Stevie was suffering from fatigue, but Rafa hopes that all three will be fit for Sunday.

He must be happy for his performances in the match, especially cause he scored. But he was unlucky cause of the injury, like LFC was unlucky with" two points dropped" as Rafa said.
