Liverpool: Reds Return Appeals To Heskey

Reds Return Appeals To Heskey

Emile Heskey has admitted that a return to Liverpool is something that would appeal to him. Reports have been linking the former Red with a return to Anfield after a four-year absence, be that at the end of the season when his contract expires or more likely in January for a cut-price fee.

The 30-year old has already indicated that he would be open to a move to a bigger club, so is keeping his options open with his contract winding down but a return to Liverpool (who he left in 2004 after a four-year spell) would appeal, as he explained to Radio Five Live:

'When you are performing well speculation will come around.

'A move to Liverpool would be lovely. Who knows what will happen. Let's see how it goes.

'Everyone wants to play in Europe at the highest level.

'Everyone knows that I'm in the last year of my contract so speculation is bound to happen. You just have to take it with a pinch of salt and carry on playing.

'I am just going to keep my options open and give my all for Wigan. In my position I can afford to do that.

'I've been putting in some good performances and people appreciate that.'

Heskey has again shown recently with his performances for England just how effective he can be, and probably why he's a better footballer than he is given credit for so a return to Liverpool wouldn't be totally out of the question, or unrealistic. I think that there would be quite a split among the Reds fans though as to whether or not they would actually want him back though?

I could see the merits of such a move, as I do see the qualities that Heskey has but I'm not convinced a return will happen and even if it did I couldn't see him getting anywhere near the amount of football he is getting with Wigan, so Steve Bruce is right to warn him of this and how this could hamper his international re-progression.

Would you want him though?

I think he is very underrated, but I think it would be better for him to stay as a regular at Wigan. Saying that I wouldn't mind seeing him back in a red shirt.

not to sure on this one if you go by the way he played for us in the past then probably no but if you go on his england performances then i would probably say yes.... its a tough one

If you lot don´t want him, feel free to sign him and then send him on a loan spell to us. Cheers fellas.

Forget Heskey - I say use our pulling power and try and disrupt Wigan's attempts to sign Zaki permenantly. Yes it might be a bit harsh on them given that they're the ones to have taken the gamble in trying him out in the first place, but it's a cutthroat world in the prem these days and we have a bigger bite than them and we should use it in this instance. People are quick to applaud Heskey's contributions when the team he's playing in performs well, but they forget one simple fact - for a striker, he has a terrible scoring record. Keane and Kuyt may have their troubles in front of goal, but at least they have the proven quality which Heskey does not. I don't want a carthorse up front I want someone who can take his chances, Kuyt has proved he can and will (though he has poor patches), Heskey has proved he can't and won't.

If the poll (on Zaki) concludes that we want him, then based on the logic of that Aston Villa fan a few weeks back we will get him, as apparently Rafa and co listen to and take notice of our polls :o)

I'd take Heskey back, but for the sake of his career he should stay with Wigan. He is in the England squad, that will remain the case so long as he plays regularly as he does at the JJB, which he probably wouldn't as much (well half as much) back here.
