Liverpool: Rafa's Views On Atletico Switch

Rafa's Views On Atletico Switch

It is not just Liverpool fans that have hit out at Uefa's decision to switch our Champions League match against Atletico Madrid, Reds boss Rafa Benitez has also had his say. Atletico are still appealing this decision to move the match 200miles from Madrid but this decision, whatever happens, has come far too late, as Rafa explained to Liverpoolfc.tv:

'We know about the loyalty of our fans and we know about the incredible lengths they go to to support us.

'They have an incredible passion for the club, which means they follow us all over Europe at great expense to themselves, and we always appreciate that.

'That is why we are so worried by this ruling. We can understand why UEFA feel they have to act - but in this case maybe this time it has come too late.

'To change the venue of the game at such a late stage would cause massive problems to our fans, and that is not fair.'

It's not fair as Rafa says, but fairness to the fans isn't the factor that football bosses (Uefa in this case) take into account these days! Despite the money that we spend, and put into the game we seem to be the ones that are treated with the most distain these days, with this, even if it is the right thing to have happened (but could have been organised for a latter date) the latest example.

Reports coming out this morning, although not official, are saying that Uefa might have made a U-turn on the decision and the venue switch will not take place as a result of increased pressure.

Can we alter our team selections for the wigan game as I had Torres down for a hat trick :(

Glad to see common sense has prevailed, but would it have done for us or any other club?

I think on this occasion ds1 it's not us who Uefa have done it for but Atletico. Could you see Uefa doing this for a club in Atletico's shoes if they were from Bosnia or Ukraine or Norway or Austria? Or in particular England? Platini's hate of the English thankfully doesn't yet extend to collateral damage to one of the other big four leagues (Italy, Spain, Germany)
