Villa Reject Another Liverpool Bid For Barry

Aston Villa have confirmed they have rejected an increased bid from Liverpool for midfielder Gareth Barry.

Villa had already rejected three previous bids by The Reds for their 27yr old captain, who was disciplined by the club on Wednesday for speaking out against manager Martin O'Neill.

Villa also denied press reports that this was a £17million bid.

'The report in today's paper of a £17million offer for Gareth Barry is inaccurate,' read a statement of the club's official website.

'The club have received a renewed offer from Liverpool for the player but that still falls well short of Aston Villa's evaluation, and has subsequently been rejected.'

I'll be honest guys I really want Alonso to stay but if he wants to go then we can't make him stay.
spen86
why do we insist on paying so much for the bloke??? he isnt that good in my opinion... alonso has to be better... 17mill is toooooo much... i read it was 15 with 2mill in add-ons... still a bit much in my opinion... what would 17mill get us somewhere else?
vinchetcuti2534
I feel sorry for the poor sap. Villa fans have already hated him, fallout with MON and the club, fined by the club and banned from training. Just let him go. I don't mind him signing for us. If he is still at Villa, they will have one unhappy captain (if he still gonna be captain) and I'm 100% sure that he will rot in the subs bench.
YagamiRED
yeah i agree. i dont know what he is going to do but i dont want him for 17mill i say we take him for 14 but no more... there has to be better players for that amount
vinchetcuti2534
YagamiRED...do'nt feel too sorry for him....take a step back and see that whatever happens he will be ok with his big fat wage packet to cushion him....he has come out deliberately to manufacture a move without asking for a transfer thus keeping any signing on fees etc....and that is what has upset us Villa fans so much....if he wants to go to you so badly then fine, good luck to the lad but to do your dirty washing in public and turn against the club and manager that has made him what he is is wrong in many Villa fans eyes...
imavillan
There is not a chance that he will be Villa captain next season. Publicly stated he wants to leave for Liverpool. Fined and suspended by Villa. Captain next season not a chance. MON is just hanging on for as long as he can, and for as much as he can get. As soon as liverpool's interest starts to wain he will be ringing Liverpool like a shot to accept the offer.
Dean1
I can`t believe your manager wants to get rid of alonso a world class player and put in barry thats is shocking. He is a one footed plodder with a good pass on him and come the serious england games he will not be in the team.If we get anything near 18 million the people who are running your club are mad.He is a 10-12 million player at a stretch.
british84
what would villa accept for barry?
wimp2k7
Thats what I said the first time we were interested in him, £10-£12m. All this talk from MON about £18-£20m is ridiculous! He compared him to Monster Masch as well! Wake up mate, Mascherano is a better player and is 4 or 5 years younger than him!! I'm so glad they rejected that bid, I hope it was our last. Keep Alonso and play him further forward.
JonLFC
this is taking the mick now jus get silva for the same money and hes a better player
jamiekilgannon1
Yeh i agree with JonLFC, The new system doesnt suit alonso, so if you play Alonso just ahead of him and behing Stevie, Alonso will come to the fore. I hope we give up on Barry, and not sign Keane either. Im Irish and he lets us down so many times, dont want him doin the same with Liverpool
Eusebio
I think the thing about our system is that Alonso isn't a particularly good anchorman, and our formation we've been using needs two defensive minded anchorman (i.e. Masch and one other) because it relies on the full backs bombing forward to support the attack, therefore needing the def.mids to stay deep and cover. If Barry comes it'd be a fairly simple affair with him on the left and Mach on the right. I think if Villa want to play hardball over the fee then we should just walk away. Come back on deadline day when no other clubs have come in for him and give them a straight choice - Keep £40,000 a week's worth of disgruntled player, who the fans hate and who isn't committed, on the bench all season (or at least till january) or offer them £13.5mill tops. All this posturing will sood melt away when MON faces up to the fact that he might be stuck with Barry for months. Just my opinion though, he may be perfectly happy for that to happen.
Naoise
i guess villa want the 18mill to cover the sign on bonus barry's gonna receive. if he puts in a request and forgoes the sign on fee maybe 15-16 would convince MON??
arjy2405
Barry can leave next summer for next to nothing. He can use the new Webster rule and buy back the one year remaining in his contract, worth about 2.1 mil. So if Villa don't sell him this summer, they stand to lose a lot of money on him.
JohnDoe
seems to me you could spend a similar amount on a better player.
RadioactiveD
Most of us feel that the amount of money we would lose on Barry in one year's time will be worth it. We're not interested in money, this is about principle. After a year of sitting on the bench his career will be in ruins, and it will be money well spent. http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll124/THGFMike/1215075227_1_FT0_image001.jpg
Villan-in-Cyprus
lol, even as a LFC fan I gotta admit that's ^ effing funny :p
Naoise
Villan-in-Cyprus, It's not about principle, it's just haggling. Villa wouldn't want to keep a player, especially a captain, after he declared he wants to leave, no club would. Eventually there will be a compromise on his valuation.
JohnDoe
the way rafa has handled this whole affair is a disgrace.......he is supposed to be a prem manager yet he has acted like a pikey knacker with no morals....and now maybe trying the same public, gypsy, method over keane!....obviously having spent so much time is that halting site of a city has rubbed off on him......what else can u expect.....glad to see your club has as much funds for players as hull city this summer! LMFAO!
lillywhites101
lillywhites101, When has Rafa, or anybody associated with Liverpool, ever express interest in Keane? We never did, only the tabloids who said that we were interested in him. As far as Barry is concerned, we tabled a bid, that bid was leaked to the press, not by Liverpool according to the journalist who first broke the story, O'Neill then confirmed it. How is Rafa's conduct a disgrace? As with going public with interest in players, didn't Spurs go public with their interest in Crouch and Benayoun? Where is your moral high ground there? Before slating us look at the way your club does business. Hypocrites.
JohnDoe
Sorry LW101 but it is Barry doing the talking not Rafa, and Keane hasn't done anything wrong, it's the press ******** about in business that doesn't concern them. Same goes both ways with the Crouch Benayoun nonsense, Levy doesn't do anything in public and the press link us with everyone even when we know that we aint going for any of them. All that has happened (That i have seen expressed by a number of both Liverpool and Villa fans on here) is that the press is winding up fans and causing problems because they dont have a clue whats going on so make ***** up. Everything is conducted (Or has tried to be) in secret and the press hate it.
zzz
i think rafa should move on no because hes too exspensive and e could get a better player for less than he is
jamiekilgannon1
Barry is a good player and works with Gerrard far more effectively than any of the over-rated foreigners presently playing in your midfield, which is why Rafa wants him.
gwyllum18
gwyllum that is a ridiculous claim that you can only have made off the top of your head without watching any LFC games last season. May I remind you that one reason that Rafa finally had the ability to unleash a 21-goal Gerrard in a central midfield role last season was the form of Mascherano? A player who actually is worth £18million and a lot more besides. Fool.
Naoise
Would keep Alonso over buying Barry, for me the better player.
Tiny T
Rumours linking you with Robbie Keane, I see him as a similar player to Dalgliesh, would be a good signing rather than Barry.
Tiny T
borrrrrrrrring. I'm tired of this. I'd even take 12mil and crouch at this point. I just want this to be over already.
los_angeles_villan
lol 12 million and crouch!!
EZLFC
"lol 12 million and crouch!!" exactly what i was thinking that would make the deal for barry £22m-£27m your have having a fecking alright. i wished rafa would just leave barry to it and go for bentley, silva and keane i would be well happy with that
muffdaddy1983
just give up on the guy lol, jus guna get you more in debt, u havent even paid for any of last seasons players yet>>
kendog
"I'd even take 12mil and crouch at this point" LOL, now that's funny.
JohnDoe
Barry, Keane, Downing, Milner, whoever. If there are any truth in most of these it would suggest that Rafa is attempting to build a Premier league tried and tested, British (and Irish) base to the team to try and push for the Premiership title. It also looks like he is trying to ship out the players better suited to Europe like Alonso, and even looking at physically bigger players from abroad, like Albert Riera
Chris 88
Eusebio Keanes the captain of a rubbish Irish national side with no central midfield players of any use or leaders on the pitch, who have had inexperienced and inept managers for the last 2 qualiying campaigns,he constantly has to go seek out the ball and assist the midfield, nobodys looked good for Ireland in competitive games in a good while. He's the countries all time leading scorer by a long way for fecks sake. For Spurs he's probably been the most important player over the last 2 seasons, his goal tally improves every year,he links up the attack well,is versatile and his work rate is immense. He's fantastic for team morale as well. He'd be a revelation linking up with Torres for you guys.I really hope all this speculation is just that, because we can't afford to loose Robbie,he's vital for us at Spurs.
CoxintheBox
Almost as funny as Rafa offering Carson for Barry one for one swap.
Villan-in-Cyprus
Villan-in-Cyprus, please enlighten us, when did Rafa offer that?
JohnDoe
If a player wants to go that badly, let him go. MON is playing sill beggers by holding out for a silly price. Strong rumour we here at Pompey have done a deal on Crouch!!!
storagematt
What's the fee storagematt?
JohnDoe
Just read it in the mail, £10 mil. Still no confirmation from either club but if it's true then good luck to Crouch. Hope it pays off for him.
JohnDoe
man really didnt want to lose crouch, loved him being here, well i guess is heart wasnt init, and he needed more games, cant blame him. "He's Big He's Red His Feet Stick Out The Bed... Peter ... Crouch"
EZLFC
Please Rafa, stop going for him now! Or at least lay off until the end of the transfer window! If we leave a bid till the last minute, we could probably bid around 12-15mill for him as MON wouldn't fancy having such an important player at his club unhappy, or Barry should just hand in a transfer request, we all know he wants to leave but if he hands it in it's official, thus putting more pressure on Villa to sell. I should be a manager!
RobbieGODFowler
gettin boring now this saga
kendog
It looks like Villa are not going to back down on their valuation.
dazza71
Why should we dazza? In todays inflated transfer market we have set a fair price for him. personally I'd be happy to see him on his way now for around 15million + finnan, I just want shot of the whole damn situation.
